Iroquois Preschool - Opportunities Start Here
Iroquois Preschool provides age-appropriate
curriculum & activities through play to ready
children academically and socially for their years ahead.
Play is an importance part of our preschool curriculum.
Play allows children to learn about the world and themselves.
As children play, they learn new skills, develop coping techniques, evaluate new ideas and master their bodies.
![In art, the process is more important than the product. As children use art materials, they are planning and carrying out a task. They also use symbols to represent their ideas.](https://cmsv2-assets.apptegy.net/uploads/6459/file/485155/f8a6adce-57a9-4700-9932-317ffb926908.jpeg)

![Free play allows children to make choices. As they make choices where to play in the classroom, they are attaining a variety of skills. For example, building with interlocking blocks promotes material exploration, spatial planning, symbolic representation, pretend play, and social interactions.](https://cmsv2-assets.apptegy.net/uploads/6459/file/485158/e7c90909-1832-4284-b6f9-6e0ec4feb4ca.jpeg)
![The classroom library books are rotated regularly and are part of the free choice play time. Reading aloud to the children promotes comprehension and expands their vocabulary. Journal time gives children an opportunity to draw or write to express themselves. They learn to join letters to represent words and names. Phonemic awareness activities help children learn sounds, and rhymes.](https://cmsv2-assets.apptegy.net/uploads/6459/file/485159/37fa4349-744f-432e-9963-a6ce06c7131a.jpeg)
![Children’s thinking about math and science are in integrated into their play through various activities and areas of the classroom. Children may sort blocks by size or color in the block area. They may discover which object sink or float at the sensory table. They will be exposed to vocabulary phrases such as more than, less than, in front, behind, names of shapes, etc. Children will observe nature, participate in classroom cooking, and compare/contrast objects.](https://cmsv2-assets.apptegy.net/uploads/6459/file/485160/9f1d83d4-1d31-4c87-b51d-6a6effbfa27c.jpeg)

![Fine motor activities are those that involve the small movements of the hands. These activities may include threading beads, sewing cards, using a fork, playing with Legos, or buttoning clothes. When children interact with fine motor activities and games, they are fine tuning their eye-hand coordination (the link between what their eyes see and what their hands are actively involved in). As these skills develop, children are better able to hold a pencil to write or draw, turn the pages of a book, and hold and use a scissors.](https://cmsv2-assets.apptegy.net/uploads/6459/file/485163/9e7a58da-006a-4dd6-81a4-4387db753d45.jpeg)
![Whatever we can do inside, we can also do outside in the sunshine! Outdoor learning is most generally active and promotes students’ mental, physical, and social health. Students who learn outdoors develop a sense of self, independence, confidence, creativity, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. They learn to have empathy towards others, develop their motor skills, and self-discipline. Besides, outdoor learning is just plain fun!](https://cmsv2-assets.apptegy.net/uploads/6459/file/485164/7be0dcde-5b3b-4387-b02f-283ae81cc154.jpeg)
![Circle time integrates math, science, and language arts concepts in a short group instruction time. Children learn to attend, take turns speaking, responding, and participating in a group. During our circle time we add to our calendar, observe the weather, practice concepts, such as shapes, numbers, and letters, do fingerplays and songs.](https://cmsv2-assets.apptegy.net/uploads/6459/file/485179/ddcad5d8-74ac-4cfd-a4c3-c8d89dbb8757.jpeg)

All About Mrs. Wienbar
Here are a few facts about me. I grew up on a farm just 15 minutes from Iroquois! I attended De Smet School from kindergarten through 12th grade. I received my B.S. degree with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education, and a minor in Early Childhood Education from NSU. I recently earned my Master degree in Teaching and Learning, with an endorsement in Administration. I enjoy learning new things and am a life-long learner. I taught for four years in the Redfield School District in Kindergarten and Early Childhood Special Education, before my family and I moved to Iroquois. Since then, I have been teaching in the Iroquois School District for more than 25 years. During those years I have taught in the positions of elementary resource room teacher, preschool teacher, middle school and high school resource room teacher, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I am passionate about teaching and learning. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your children.
